Come make a ZINE and join a legacy of storytelling and knowledge-sharing that challenges the mainstream! Emerging from the Harlem Renaissance and commonly associated today with punk/DIY subcultures, zines are mini-magazines using collage, illustration, and writing.

MSA is joined by cultural worker Yasmin Zacaria Mikhaiel of BIYA BIYA for an interactive, beginner-friendly workshop on how to construct zines rooted in family memory, food, and rituals. Together we’ll uplift the legacies that usually go lost or forgotten.

ABOUT OUR FACILITATOR
Yasmin Zacaria Mikhaiel (she/they) is a Chicago-based cultural producer, dramaturg, and arts journalist. They founded BIYA BIYA Productions to platform and invest in diasporic artists committed to cultural preservation. They encourage and facilitate cross-cultural exchange and collaboration without shame in low-stakes community spaces. BIYA BIYA offers a supportive environment as people (re)connect with themselves and their creativity. BIYA BIYA—all are welcome!
